I would like to take the time to introduce myself to all you amazing design enthusiasts out there. I am the principal designer of Camden Lane Interiors and lover of all things design, lifestyle, food and dog related! Located in the Toronto Beaches, I find myself drawn to wonderful spirit of the community, local businesses and friendly atmosphere. I have such pride in working with amazing clients who have a design vision but need help transforming it from a design on paper, to reality in their home.

LUXURY BEDROOM - "YOUR FEATURE WALL"

I recently completed this beautiful master bedroom for our client in the Toronto Beaches. An important factor to this room was creating a soft tranquil space with a traditional style. I wanted to make our client feel relaxed with soft tones in the bedding, walls and the overall decor. Some clients love bold contrast but a monochromatic color scheme is never boring, it makes the room feel bigger, brighter and softer.

When working on a tight budget, focus on what main features you want to highlight in your room? Obviously the headboard wall, bedding, make-up area and lighting are important factors to focus your attention on.

A headboard feature can always be something different and unconventional. This time around we used two decorative mirror styles and placed them strategically to create a focal point on the headboard wall. What’s great about the mirrors is they are beautiful and a cost effective solution if you may not be able to get a beautiful tall tufted headboard. This look adds plenty of interest by creating a pattern with the mirror placement and style.

Look for one of a kind “wow factors” that you can incorporate for your feature wall. Whether different sized mirrors, sculptural art, or a combination of picture art. Think outside the box for an arrangement that could draw your eye to the wall. If all else fails, over sized art can be the perfect backdrop to your headboard wall.

When it comes to your bedding, layer your cushions, find that pattern that doesn’t overtake your room, or that you won’t get too tired from. These days I go on a hunt looking for beautiful bedding options throughout various retailers that are decently priced and have great quality. Shop around for the right bedding that works for you, and more than one to work for the seasons!

PHOTO GALLERY WALL - "OUR TOP DESIGN PICKS"

One of my favorite ways to style any room is with a photo gallery wall. A variation of different frame sizes, finishes and your photo content can create a beautiful display! Its an ideal way to add color, texture and tell a story of your design style. An eclectic arrangement of content such as personal photography, sketches or paintings can be mixed and matched to create balance, symmetry and tell a story.

I am sharing some of my favorite interiors with beautiful examples of photo galleries in different applications and rooms.

I love the use of art on canvas grouped together where all the colors and tones work together. Framed art on a wall can create a strong pop of color in the room, even changing out the art once in a while can create a different color theme to the space.

For the minimalist at heart who may not want clutter, these ideas are just right! Less is more with contrast, lines, and black & white art. A photo ledge display can allow you to layer your frames, easily change arrangements and lets you layer with accessories depending on the ledge depth.

Not sure what to do with your headboard wall? These bedroom looks are sophisticated and contemporary with a great use of pictures frames hung in a grid layout, creating a pattern and texture

Can’t decide on where to place your gallery wall? The best location is always a staircase depending on your layout. Selecting the right photos is essential, whether family black & white photos or travel photography. I suggest selecting frames that are softer than a black frame to reduce contrast and make the feature softer and not overbearing.

Love how cool these spaces look with eclectic art, sculptures, picture layering, and the use of different sized matting. These rooms don’t follow any rules, they are the exception to the rule!

DESIGN 101 - THE PERKS OF HIRING A DESIGNER

As part of being a designer I often run into prospective clients who are unsure about whether they need or see the value of hiring an interior designer. For some, hiring a designer can be an intimidating and daunting experience; however designers serve a purpose for everyone. Whether you have no idea where to start your renovation project, or just need some help putting together your home décor ideas into reality, a professional can be there to guide you through the process. VISUALIZE..."OUR DESIGN PROCESS"

I wanted to share a little more about our design process at Camden Lane Interiors with a breakdown of our design phases. I must say that I have come across so many clients that share in the excitement of seeing a visual design of their space. Living in the same space sometimes does not let you see beyond what you are used to. Visualization is an important step to getting my design vision across and inspires clients to get excited for the next phases of their project.

Take a look at a great example of a current living room project with a “before” photo, our design concept, and “after” transformation.. .

Phase 1

First I offer a meet & greet to go through your space, review your design dilemmas and get to know you! We cater designs to your wish list, and inspirational images that evoke your vision and style to create your dream home! I come across many rooms that need new life, this family room was one of them!

Phase 2

During our design presentation we gather samples, finishes, fabrics and paint chips to provide an overall vision for your room! We present a 3D visual walk-through of each designed space. This is the best way for you to see your room transformation with those finishes, textures and colors presented to you. The furniture placement and styling in the 3D gives you an idea of scale, placement and proportion of the interior. The potential is limitless!

Phase 3

After I receive your design approval, our teams moves into the ordering, delivery and project management. We aim to get your project from paper to reality! Outdated paneling seems to be a common dilemma yet a beautiful update of white painted panels are not! Our contractors got started on updating this space and what a difference freshly painted walls, updated flooring, new lighting and an accent fireplace feature wall can do to the space! Already it feels brighter, taller and a larger space for my clients to relax in!

Phase 4

SHOPPING..."STYLING YOUR HOME"

Styling your space is a necessary finishing touch.. like a necklace to a beautiful dress, it completes the look. A new design package we are offering is a “Shop & Style” service. I find a lot of clients have beautiful furnishings but need some direction and the right “lipstick and mascara” to complete the look! The challenge is putting everything together such as finding the right art, decorating your bookshelf, selecting the right area rug, table lamps and throw cushions.

We do the sourcing and shopping for you! A day of shopping and styling of ready to purchase items makes this design package stress free. Our project in Ajax required more storage, color, functionality and simplicity for a family of 3 looking to make this new house their dream home. Storage components with floating cabinets, wall mounted shelves, furniture with storage and accent baskets are a great way to hide kids toys, maximize your storage and keep the room clutter free. We designed a custom t.v. cabinet for the living room in-between the windows. We considered durable fabrics, and finishes to create a practical living environment that is cozy, and inviting.
